Gareth Barry says that he hopes to "win over" Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry has claimed that he is determined to impress manager Ronald Koeman in order to cement a spot in his team this season.

The 35-year-old featured regularly in the Toffees' pre-season schedule, but faces competition from new signing Idrissa Gueye when the Premier League campaign kicks off.

"No matter what you have done in your career, there's always someone to win over," the Liverpool Echo quotes Barry as saying. "Now it's going to be Ronald Koeman - it's as simple as that.

"There's always a new experience coming along and now it's the new manager. He's someone who has done everything as a player and has hit the ground running with his managerial career as well. I'm looking forward to working under him."

Everton's opening league game of the season will be against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.
