Colombia's Faryd Mondragon breaks World Cup age record

Goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon, 43, becomes the World Cup's oldest ever player by coming off the bench in Colombia's 4-1 Group C victory over Japan on Tuesday.

Colombia goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon became the World Cup's oldest ever player on Tuesday when he came off the bench in their 4-1 victory over Japan.

The 43-year-old was used as an 86th-minute substitute for David Ospina as the South American nation ensured their passage into the last 16 as Group C winners.

Mondragon, who celebrated his birthday three days prior to the match in Brazil, breaks the record set by Cameroon great Roger Milla, who was aged 42 when he appeared at the 1994 tournament.

It was Mondragon's first international appearance since 2005, and 56th overall since debuting in 1993.
