Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery insists that his side will "continue with patience" after being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery has insisted that his side will "continue with patience" after being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

PSG, who lost the first leg 3-1, were defeated again in Paris as Cristiano Ronaldo netted his third goal of the tie to before Casemiro cancelled out Edinson Cavani's strike.

Emery said that his current crop of players are capable of winning the European competition, adding that the club has vowed to bring Champions League glory to Paris "one day".

"We all want to win this competition quickly," the manager told reporters after the game. "We'll continue with patience, and build a team that can win.

"I'm sure this team can win the Champions League. The supporters will see that Paris will win this competition one day. Losing to Madrid is not a disappointment, but going out in the last 16 is.

"But, the first leg was the key because we were better over the first 80 minutes than them. They controlled 60 per cent of this match and we couldn't do enough in the 40 per cent we controlled."

PSG return to domestic action this weekend with a Ligue 1 tie against Metz on Saturday.
