Celtic have reportedly applied to UEFA for an exemption to allow Ange Postecoglou to become the club's new manager.
The Scottish outfit are on the search for a new boss after Neil Lennon left Glasgow in February, and they have identified Australian Postecoglou as their favourite candidate.
However, the 55-year-old has not got the required coaching badges to work in Europe and the governing body say the appeal could take several weeks to resolve.
BBC Sport reports that Postecoglou does not hold a Pro license which is needed to manage in the top leagues in Europe, but Celtic are attracted to the Australian's CV as he has won two A-League titles and the Asian Cup with the national team.
That was prior to Postecoglou being appointed by Yokohama, where he added to his trophy cabinet by ending the club's 15-year wait for the J-League title in 2019.
Celtic were unable to clinch their 10th consecutive Scottish Premiership title this season as rivals Rangers finished 20 points clear at the summit.
