Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech insists that he will not give up his place in the team without a fight following the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has insisted that he will fight for his place in the first team despite the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Many of Cech's performances for the Gunners last season were widely criticised, and new manager Unai Emery wasted little time in bringing in a new shot-stopper when Leno signed in June.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Yann Sommer, casting further doubt over the futures of Cech and David Ospina, but the 36-year-old has said that he is only focused on ensuring that he is in Emery's plans.

"Hopefully, [the number one] is not going to be only on this training shirt. The whole team has the same message. Everyone works as hard as he can and then the boss makes the choice when the pre-season is over," Cech is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

"I have one more year of contract and the club is counting with me, so far. My position is the same, I'm here, I'm concentrating on my job and I try to keep the number one jersey in the starting lineup. This is my task and what comes, comes.

"This kind of situation happened many times during my career, so that's the way it goes. As I said, the only thing you can do is work hard. Initially you try to force your way through to the starting line-up. There is no sentiment involved. You just do your job and you see."

Cech has been linked with a return to former club Chelsea, while Roma and Napoli have also been credited with an interest in the veteran.
