Arsenal could reportedly be prepared to trigger Marco Asensio's £72m release clause in order to land the playmaker from Real Madrid this summer.

Arsenal could reportedly make a move for Real Madrid prospect Marco Asensio by activating the youngster's release clause this summer.

The Gunners are thought to be keen on adding to their attacking options in the current window as Alexis Sanchez's future at the club remains in doubt, leading Arsene Wenger into a frustrating pursuit of AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar for much of the summer.

According to Don Balon, Wenger could instead turn his attention to Madrid's Asensio and may be prepared to trigger the 21-year-old's £72m release clause, following a string of stirring displays from the Spaniard.

The same source does, however, state that Asensio is not interested in a move away from the Spanish capital, after establishing himself at the centre of Zinedine Zidane's plans for the future.

Asensio scored during Madrid's 4-1 Champions League final win over Juventus in Cardiff earlier this year.
