Theo Walcott hopes to prove himself as a winger at Arsenal next season after failing to impress in a more central-attacking position.

Arsenal ace Theo Walcott has admitted that his switch to a central-attacking position did not work out and instead wants to revert back to being a winger.

The 27-year-old claimed last year that his best form would arrive when moved into a striking role at the Emirates Stadium, promising 20 goals a season when shifted there.

That did not prove to be the case last time out for the England international, however, with just nine goals in 42 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.

Walcott is now eyeing a wide role this coming campaign, telling reporters on the club's pre-season tour of the United States: "I want to make my position on the right - that's where I know where I am now.

"I've told the manager that I want to be known for playing on the right again, although I can play up front. I want to know where I want to play.

"The manager has said I can play up front. It depends on what game it is. I know I can do a job up front as well as on the right."

Walcott, who also has hopes of earning a place in the England team after being overlooked for Euro 2016, has scored 85 goals in 334 appearances for Arsenal overall.
