Danny Welbeck admits that Arsenal's Europa League quarter-final second leg at CSKA Moscow was "not comfortable".

Danny Welbeck has admitted that Arsenal's Europa League quarter-final second leg at CSKA Moscow was "not comfortable" but is pleased that the Gunners were not another comeback casualty this week.

Arsene Wenger's charges were trailing 2-0 and under pressure at the VEB Arena as their 4-1 first-leg lead looked in danger of evaporating.

Welbeck scored in the 75th minute to give Arsenal some breathing space before Aaron Ramsey struck in stoppage time for a 6-3 aggregate win and passage to the semi-finals.

On a week when several sides were pegged back in European competition, including Barcelona and Lazio, the England international was relieved that the same fate did not befall the Gunners.

"It was not comfortable, we have seen in Europe how difficult it can be coming into games with an advantage," Welbeck told BT Sport.

!It was difficult today, away from home in different conditions, but we stuck through it.

"The defender was tight to me, he thought I would go inside like before, I went to the other side, played the one-two with Mo [Elneny], knew it would beat the defender and finished it nicely."

The result means that Arsenal have reached their first European semi-final since 2008-09, when they did so in the Champions League.
