Rolling Stones pull marginally ahead in albums chart race
The Rolling Stones pull just ahead of young singer-songwriter Dylan McKenna in the race to be crowned this week's UK number one album.

The Rolling Stones are on course to deny young singer-songwriter Declan McKenna his first number one album, according to the latest sales data from the Official Charts Company.

The 21-year-old had taken an early lead in the race for the top spot with his second studio album Zeros, but the veteran rockers pulled ahead on Wednesday with the reissue of their 1973 album Goats Head Soup.

The race remains close, however, and there were just 282 chart sales separating the two acts heading into Thursday's final day of sales.

Speaking on The Record Club last night, McKenna said: "I'm determined to beat The Rolling Stones, which is pretty strange to be saying.

"You've got to go into these things with confidence, even when you're technically the underdog.

"I've been blown away by the response - it's been pretty outrageous the people who have got behind it and how amazing this past week has been."

McKenna's first album, What Do You Think About The Car?, debuted at number 11 three years ago.
