The upcoming UK version of The Challenge is said to be in limbo following the death of The Queen.

The UK version of The Challenge is reportedly facing production problems following the death of The Queen.

The show sees stars of reality TV shows move in together and battle it out in a series of physical and endurance challenges in an attempt to win a huge cash prize.

The UK version of the format - ordered for streaming service Paramount+ - is currently being filmed in South America and has the likes of Love Island's Marcel Somerville and TOWIE's James Lock on the cast.

According to The Sun, producers decided to tell the participants about The Queen's death on September 8 and the news led to some cast members wanting to fly back to the UK.

A show source told the newspaper: "The Challenge is filming at the moment in Argentina and normally the rules are that the contestants are cut off from the outside world and don't have their phones.

"After the sad news of the Queen's death, producers felt it was only fair to tell the contestants the news and let them have their phones, but it's caused issues with production now as some of the contestants have been upset by the news and want to leave.

"The producers are doing their best to get them all to stay.

"They understand it's an emotional time and a monumental moment in history, so they appreciate why some of the stars feel unsettled about being away from home at this time."

The Challenge is expected to be released on Paramount+ in early 2023.
