The Sunday Telegraph journalist Liam Halligan joins the new GB News channel as its economics and business editor.

Liam Halligan has become the latest addition to the on-air team of GB News, joining as the channel's economics and business editor.

The 51-year-old has written the 'Economics Agenda' column in The Sunday Telegraph for the last 18 years and has also worked for The Spectator, Channel 4 and Radio 5 Live.

As part of his remit at GB News, Halligan will co-present a daily lunchtime show on the new channel, which will launch in the coming months.

"Being part of the launch of GB News is a hugely exciting opportunity," said Halligan. "In an increasingly complex world, the community is hungry for analysis, explanation and a range of viewpoints – and that's what we will deliver."

John McAndrew, the channel's director of news and programmes, said: "Liam has an exceptional ability to unpick complex financial and economic issues and explain them meaningfully. He's a brilliant journalist and a superb addition to our lineup."

Other presenters announced so far include channel chairman Andrew Neil, Dan Wootton, Michelle Dewberry, Colin Brazier and Alex Phillips.
