The BBC announces a landmark new natural history documentary series which will play out annually until 2028.

The BBC has commissioned a major new natural history series which will play out over the course of seven years.

Our Changing Planet aims to document the changes to six key habitats over the world - including the Arctic, the Maldives and the Amazon rainforest - to see how ecosystems are evolving and wildlife is adapting in the wake of a growing population and global warming.

The first programme will go out in April 2022 as part of the BBC's centenary year celebrations and then new episodes will air every year thereafter until 2028.

Patrick Holland, the BBC's head of factual, said: "Our Changing Planet is a landmark project that will provide a unique document of the biggest challenge facing humanity.

"Made by the Natural History unit, this is public service broadcasting at its most urgent and important."

Our Changing Planet will be hosted by "six major BBC presenters", with the complete lineup to be confirmed at a later date.
