Alex Scott has emerged as the frontrunner to host the revived version of Gladiators in the works at the BBC.
The iconic competition series - a staple of the ITV Saturday night schedule in the '90s - is making a comeback on BBC One early next year - 23 years after the final episode aired on ITV.
Ulrika Jonsson was the host of the original show but will be replaced for the comeback, and according to The Sun, former footballer Scott is the favourite for the role.
"Alex would be a perfect fit," a source told the newspaper. "A former sportswoman, she obviously understands and appreciates the physicality and demands of the show.
"She would also probably scale the travelator with ease!
"A few names are in the mix but Alex, pending her schedule, would love to do it.
"It's right up her street - primetime Saturday night entertainment - so the hope is she will be announced later this year."
The new team of Gladiators is already thought to have been assembled ahead of the show being filmed in Sheffield later this year.
