Bank of Dave star Dave Fishwick reportedly becomes the first star to sign up for this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

Entrepreneur Dave Fishwick has reportedly become the first star to sign up for this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 52-year-old became a national hero when he set up his own bank which offered struggling businesses loans on favourable terms and gave all its profits to charity - an endeavour documented in the Channel 4 series Bank of Dave.

According to The Sun, Fishwick was approached by Strictly producers earlier this year and has now penned a deal for a stint on the famous dancefloor.

"Dave is a real community hero and the best of British," a source told the newspaper. "Strictly think his inspiring back story will win him new fans on and shine a spotlight on the amazing work he has done for people and business in Lancashire.

"Dave has told his friends he has accepted and cannot wait to get started. For Dave it's a dream come true. He is a working-class man who did well for himself and decided to use his success to help others."

Two days ago Fishwick hinted at a "gigantic" new project, writing on X: "WOW!! A Gigantic opportunity has just arrived, and I am sworn to secrecy!! This would be one of the biggest so far! I will reveal more when I can."

The new series of Strictly is due to begin on BBC One in September.
