This year's launch episode of Strictly Come Dancing is postponed by six days following the death of The Queen.

This year's launch show for Strictly Come Dancing has been postponed by six days following the death of The Queen earlier this month.

The programme, which sees the celebrities meet their professional partners for the first time, was prerecorded earlier this month and had been due to air tomorrow night.

Since the passing of The Queen on September 8, broadcasters' schedules have been in a state of flux, with the BBC and ITV in particular moving planned programmes to accommodate additional news coverage.

Now the BBC has confirmed that the launch show will air on Friday, September 23 on BBC One between 7pm and 8.50pm.

The live shows will then begin as scheduled the following night, with all 15 couples performing for the first time in a 145-minute programme.

Strictly then continues on as planned, concluding as usual the week before Christmas.
