Adam Peaty says that he believes he may have autism but has not sought a diagnosis.

Adam Peaty has revealed that he believes he may be somewhere on the autism spectrum.

The 26-year-old swimmer is one of Team GB's most successful ever Olympic athletes in the pool, with a record of three gold medals and two silvers, while he has also broken world records 14 times.

In his new book The Gladiator Mindset, which is released this Thursday, Peaty explains that he began to think he may have autism after noticing similarities between himself an an autistic friend.

In an extract published by The Mirror, he says: "One of my friends has got autism and we're like, 'Oh we're very similar', and I'm very single-minded on a task as well.

"I haven't been diagnosed but for certain I'm somewhere on the spectrum, as my mind is better able to focus when I'm moving or exercising."

Peaty releases his book just days after he became the latest celebrity to leave the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.
