Sir Patrick Stewart reveals that he has received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in the States.

Acting legend Sir Patrick Stewart has revealed that he has been given his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The 80-year-old is currently preparing to film the new season of Star Trek: Picard in the States and received his jab at the stadium of baseball team the LA Dodgers in California.

In a video posted to Instagram, Sir Patrick is seen rolling up his sleeve and turning to the camera as a nurse in PPE gives him the injection.

"How do we say thank you to the health workers and scientists for their sacrifice and service?" he said.

"Receive the vaccine as soon as one can to lessen their load and keep wearing a mask to protect fellow citizens.

"In my 80th year, I am grateful and hopeful for better days ahead."

According to the latest data, 4.91% of the US population have now released at least one dose of the vaccine, while in the UK, the figure stands at an impressive 8.63%.
