Sarah Harding says that the tumours in her brain and lung "have shrunk a bit" as a result of treatment.

Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding has shared a positive update in her battle against cancer.

The 39-year-old was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and shortly afterwards received the news that it had spread to other parts of her body.

In her new autobiography Hear Me Out, Harding reveals that she has been told that she has most likely celebrated her final Christmas already, but in the closing pages of the book she shares a glimmer of hope.

"Before I put this book to bed, I wanted to share a little bit of positive news," she writes, according to the Daily Star.

"MRI scans at the end of December revealed that the tumours in my brain and in my lung have shrunk a bit with the treatment."

She adds: "Right now, every little victory feels momentous.

"With this news under my belt, I was able to enjoy a relaxing quiet Christmas with mum and yes, I got plenty of lovely Christmas pressies."

Hear Me Out is released on Thursday, March 18.
