New Zealand TV presenter Tova O'Brien has gone viral on social media for an interview with politician Jami-Lee Ross following the country's general election.

The nationwide vote, held on Saturday, saw prime minister Jacinda Ardern's Labour party win a landslide victory and form the country's first majority government since the introduction of a new proportional representation system in 1996.

Ross is a politician who formed the far-right 'Advance New Zealand' party to stand at the election but it fell flat with the public, earning less than 1% of the vote and gaining no seats in parliament.

Appearing on the Newshub programme after the result, Ross was given short shrift by host O'Brien, who informed him that his "political career is in tatters", accused him of "pedalling misinformation" and said that "this is probably the last time we'll invite you on".
