The current season of Terrace House: Tokyo has been cancelled following the tragic death of star Hana Kimura last weekend, it has been confirmed.
The 22-year-old was found dead after posting a string of worrying messages on social media, including a final post which said simply: "Goodbye."
Kimura had been participating in the 2019-20 season of the Japanese Netflix reality show but production was halted earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement, co-producer Fuji TV said: "Regarding Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020, we have decided to cancel the production. We take this issue very seriously and would like to continue to earnestly respond to it.
"We would like to express our regrets for the death of Hana Kimura and offer our sincere condolences to her family. Taking her passing with utmost sincerity, we will take active steps to formulate a response."
Speaking to Variety, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed that there are no plans to remove Terrace House from its service, although more recent episodes featuring Kimura - currently only available to view in Japan - will not be distributed internationally for the time being.
