Ruth Jones admits that she has not been working on new episodes of Gavin & Stacey.

Ruth Jones appears to have dashed the prospect of Gavin & Stacey coming back for another new episode this Christmas.

After a break of 10 years, the comedy returned for a special episode last Christmas to unprecedented success, with more than 18.5 million viewers tuning in.

That success, combined with the episode's cliffhanger ending, led to speculation that more new episodes would be forthcoming, possibly as soon as this Christmas, but Jones has revealed that she has not been working on new scripts with co-creator James Corden.

"James and I did Zoom a few times," the Nessa actress told The Telegraph. "But we didn't do any writing. In fact, I remember us both saying how uncreative we both felt.

"And since then we've not even mentioned work, just talked about the family and how we're feeling.

"It does seem like a waste doesn't it, not to have spent all those lockdown hours writing? But I just couldn't get into the groove."

The show's patriarch Larry Lamb has recently insisted that it is a question of "when, not if" new episodes will be made.
