US singer Pink reveals that she battled coronavirus last month but has since overcome the disease.

American singer Pink has revealed that she tested positive for coronavirus last month but has now overcome the disease.

Over 1.1 million people worldwide have now contracted COVID-19, which disproportionately affects the elderly, while almost 60,000 people have lost their lives.

In a message posted to Twitter, the 'U + Ur Hand' singer said that she had been isolating with her young son after her diagnosis.

"Two weeks ago my three-year-old son, Jameson, and I [were] showing symptoms of COVID-19," she wrote. "Fortunately, our primary care physician had access to tests and I tested positive. My family was already sheltering at home and continued to do so for the last two weeks following the instruction of our doctor. Just a few days ago we were re-tested and are thankfully negative.

"It is an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible. This illness is serious and real.

"People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities."

Pink went on to reveal that she has made a donation of $1 million (£810,000) to efforts to fight the disease in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

The US is the country most affected by COVID-19 to date, registering almost a quarter of the entire world's total confirmed cases.
