Glastonbury Festival organisers reveal that they have submitted plans to hold a live music event at Worthy Farm in September.

Glastonbury organisers have submitted plans to stage some form of live event at Worthy Farm in September.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that the festival has been cancelled for the second summer in a row due to coronavirus, although since that announcement then the UK's case rates have fallen dramatically due to an extended national lockdown.

The UK's vaccine programme has also progressed at a remarkable rate, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson hopeful that most social distancing restrictions will be removed by June 21.

That date will come too late to organise a full-scale Glastonbury, but organiser Emily Eavis has revealed that plans are afoot to hold some kind of event - involving live music and camping - at the farm in September.

"For those asking for an update on our plans later this year, we have put an application in for a licence for a concert at the farm in September (around the time we'd usually do Pilton Party)," she wrote on Instagram.

"Of course, we've no idea yet whether we'll able to do that, but we wanted to get the application in to be in with a chance. Unlikely we'll have any news for a couple of months - but will let you know right here when we do."

Although the summer Glastonbury festival has been cancelled, other festivals still going ahead this year include Reading & Leeds (August), Isle of Wight (September), BST Hyde Park (July) and Mighty Hoopla (September).
