Veteran actor Alan Arkin has died at the age of 89 at his home in California, his sons have confirmed in a statement.
In a career stretching back to the late 1950s, the star appeared in numerous acclaimed plays, films and TV shows, winning an Academy Award for Little Miss Sunshine in 2006.
Other notable movies included Argo, Edward Scissorhands, Grosse Point Blank and Get Smart, while on the small screen he was recently seen in Netflix's acclaimed comedy The Kominsky Method opposite Michael Douglas.
A joint statement from Arkin's sons Adam, Matthew and Anthony said: "Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed."
Arkin is survived by wife Suzanne Newlander and his three sons.
