Sherrie Hewson's Hollyoaks character Martha Blake will reportedly transform into an OAP serial killer.

Sherrie Hewson's Hollyoaks character Martha Blake will turn into the show's latest serial killer, according to a report.

The 73-year-old actress - formerly of Coronation Street - made her debut on the Channel 4 soap last month as the estranged grandmother of Sienna (Anna Passey), joined by son Jez (Jeremy Sheffield).

Martha is thought to be pivotal to the upcoming one-year time jump storyline and will also be a useful tool in the ongoing cast cull, in which at least 20 characters are leaving.

According to The Sun, Martha will "tear through characters like a knife through butter" as terror strikes the village once again.

"Hollyoaks is at its best when there's a major villain on the loose and Martha is going to top them all. She's just as twisted as her murderous great-granddaughter Nico," a source told the newspaper.

"She may be worse. No-one's safe with Martha around.

"Obviously Sherrie is over the moon to play such an out-there character. She can't wait to get her hands dirty with the blood of characters."

Hollyoaks continues weeknights at 7pm on E4, with first-look episodes available from 7.30pm on Channel 4 streaming.
