EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw promises that "everything changes" in Monday's special anniversary episode.

EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw has promised viewers that "everything changes" for the women of Walford in Monday night's episode.

The episode, marking the soap's 38 years on air, will focus primarily on six of Albert Square's matriarchs - Denise (Diane Parish) Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal).

Little is known about the plot, although the action is set on a regular night in the Queen Vic when all of a sudden, a twist of events leaves them reeling.

"We're all incredibly excited for Monday's episode with six of Walford's leading ladies at the fore," said Clenshaw.

"What may seem like a regular day in Walford soon takes a twist and what transpires for each and every one of them is that in a flash everything changes.

"This episode will leave the audience with a lot of questions and, what may seem like the end, is only just the beginning of some very big storylines that will play out this year."

Episodes normally premiere in advance on iPlayer at 6am on the day in question, but tomorrow's episode will be saved for the BBC One broadcast at 7.30pm.
