Anita Dobson will appear in the next full series of Doctor Who in a mystery role, it is announced.

Former EastEnders star Anita Dobson will appear in the next series of Doctor Who in a mystery role, the BBC has announced.

David Tennant will play The Doctor for three special episodes later this year, before Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa replaces him at Christmas.

Gatwa's first proper series of the show will then air in early 2024, with ex-Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson joining him in the TARDIS as new companion Ruby Sunday.

Dobson, who played the iconic Angie Watts in Walford from 1985 to 1988, was spotted filming scenes in Bristol on Friday, although no details of her role have been confirmed.

Meanwhile, the show has also cast Michelle Greenidge - known for appearing in Who showrunner Russell T Davies's acclaimed It's A Sin - for a similarly-mysterious role in the next series.

The actress was spotted on Friday filming in Bristol, which is doubling up as London's Notting Hill, alongside Gibson as Ruby, who was heard referring to Greenidge's character as "mum".
