Doctor Who star David Tennant describes his Doctor as being at 'the end of his story'.

David Tennant has given a cryptic answer when asked if he could return to Doctor Who again in the future.

The actor reappeared as a new version of The Doctor - the Fourteenth - in last year's anniversary specials before Ncuti Gatwa took over the role.

The Fourteenth was not killed off, however, as in a hitherto-unseen "bigeneration" he survived alongside his new incarnation.

At the end of the final special, as Fifteen set off for fresh adventures, Fourteen was seen settling down into retired life, living alongside companions Donna (Catherine Tate) and Mel (Bonnie Langford).

Asked if that paves the way for future episodes, Tennant told Radio Times: "The Doctor's happy. He is in a garden in Chiswick, being made mac and cheese by Bonnie Langford!

"The door is not any more open than it ever was, because in Doctor Who if you want to bring someone back, there are endless ways of doing it. It's very much the end of the story."

Doctor Who returns for new episodes with Gatwa this May on the BBC and Disney+.
