Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will skate together in the outdoors for the first time in a new one-off documentary airing on ITV over Christmas.

Legendary ice skating duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will skate together in the outdoors together for the first time ever in a new ITV documentary.

The pair, who won gold for Team GB at the 1984 Winter Olympics with a near-perfect score, have performed together for 45 years but never on a surface of non-artificial ice.

In Torvill and Dean: Skating On Thin Ice, Torvill and Dean will travel to Alaska in the hunt of a perfect place to perform to 'Bolero' in a documentary that will also highlight climate change and the effects of global warming.

"I've always dreamed of being out in nature, skating outside and this was the most perfect opportunity to achieve that, whilst also seeing the reality of climate change with our own eyes," said Torvill, who will return with Dean as judges on the new series of ITV's Dancing On Ice in January.

Dean added: "This is an extraordinary chance for us to skate out in the open with no constraints or the barriers of a rink.

"To discover how quickly the ice is disappearing is truly devastating. We hope it will be a reminder not to take our precious planet for granted."

The 90-minute documentary, narrated by Stephen Fry, will air on ITV over the Christmas period.
