Dame Maureen Lipman has revealed that she will be taking a brief sabbatical from Coronation Street in order to appear on stage.
The 76-year-old actress will take on the title role in Rose, a one-woman play about a feisty Jewish woman who escaped Nazi rule to start a new life in the US.
Lipman will begin the show in Manchester at the end of the month before it transfers to the Park Theatre in London for a month's worth of performances starting in mid-September.
As a result, Corrie bosses have given her a couple of months off from her role as Evelyn Plummer on the cobbles - although she intends to return to filming soon after, potentially in time for this year's Christmas episodes.
"This has just come at a time where I've got a little holiday from Corrie," she told Good Morning Britain. "I'm going back, because I like Corrie, I like the people."
Lipman has been part of the Corrie cast since 2018.
