Vice TV channel to close down in UK

Vice TV channel to close down in UK
Vice is to close as a TV channel in the UK after more than four years on the air.

Vice is to close down its UK TV channel at the end of this month, it has been confirmed.

The channel - a joint-venture between Vice Media and Sky - launched in September 2016 under the original name 'Viceland' with a lineup of programmes aimed at millennials, including Gaycation, F**k That's Delicious and Weediquette.

According to TBI, Vice will now cease transmissions in late April as part of Vice Media's "evolution" of the brand in the UK.

The latest figures from TV ratings organisation BARB reveal that the channel is averaging a paltry share of 0.01% of viewing in the UK, while just four programmes registered more than 5,000 viewers in the week ending March 21.

Vice previously operated on Virgin Media as well as Sky but left the cable service last summer when its carriage agreement expired.

The news comes days after Viacom confirmed plans to close black entertainment channel BET as a linear TV channel in the UK amid similarly-poor ratings.
