Sky announces a rebrand of the Syfy channel as Sky Sci-Fi to come into effect late next month.

Sky has announced that the Syfy channel will be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi from late next month.

The station first launched in the UK in October 1995 as the Sci Fi Channel and came under the Sky remit when Comcast purchased the satellite broadcaster in 2018.

Sky Sci-Fi promises to premiere new shows, including SurrealEstate and the new Day of the Dead series, alongside existing staples such as Star Trek, Quantum Leap and Stargate.

The channel will also premiere movies such as Thor: God of Thunder, Bullet Train and Bram Stoker's Dracula from launch.

Zai Bennett, Sky's MD of content, said: "From space adventures to futuristic fantasy, Sky Sci-Fi will be joining the host of genre-led brands launched in the past year and will offer a new universe for viewers to explore.

"The re-brand will make it easier for people to find exactly what they want, with fan favourites, a multitude of on demand content, as well as a burst of exciting new shows for sci-fi fanatics".

Sky Sci-Fi launches at 11am on Tuesday, July 26.
