Netflix has confirmed that it will be raising its monthly subscription prices for customers in the UK and Ireland.
The basic package has gone up £1 to £6.99 in the UK and by €1 to €8.99 in Ireland, while the standard package is up by £1 to £10.99 in the UK and by €2 to 14.99 in Ireland.
The premium subscription, which allows streaming and downloads in UHD quality on up to four devices simultaneously, is increasing in cost by £2 a month to £15.99 in the UK and by €2 a month to €20.99 in Ireland.
The price rises are the second in the space of 18 months and come amid a rise in the cost of living, with the rate of inflation expected to reach around 7% in the UK this year.
In a statement, the streaming service said: "We have always been focused on providing our members both quality and clear value for their membership.
"Our updated prices reflect the investment we have made in our service and catalogue and will allow us to continue making the series, documentaries and films our members love as well as investing in talent and the creative industry. We offer a range of plans so members can choose a price that works best for them."
The price rises come into effect immediately for new subscribers and will be effected via a 30-day notice for existing subscribers.
According to the latest estimates, around 16.8 million households in the UK currently have a Netflix subscription.
