Lucy Frazer appointed as new culture secretary in DCMS shakeup
Lucy Frazer is named the head of a new DCMS which loses the 'digital' aspect of its remit.

Lucy Frazer has been appointed as the new culture secretary by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as part of a mini cabinet reshuffle.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is being reorganised as part of the move, with the 'digital' aspect of its remit transferring to a new department called the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology.

Michelle Donelan, culture secretary until today, will head up DSIT, while Frazer moves to the DCMS from a role underneath Michael Gove in the Department for Levelling Up, Communities and Housing.

During Donelan's five months in charge of the DCMS, her major move was to reverse plans by her predecessor Nadine Dorries to privatise Channel 4, instead producing a package of reforms to ensure the broadcaster's financial stability in the years ahead.

Frazer, 50, was elected as MP for the safe Conservative seat of South East Cambridgeshire in 2015, prior to which she worked as a barrister.
