Disney+ has beaten Wall Street forecasts to pass 130 million worldwide subscribers, it has been announced.
The streaming service added 11.8 million subscribers - way ahead of the 7.3 million predicted - in Q4 2021 to reach a new worldwide total of 129.8 million, Disney informed investors on Wednesday.
The news means that year-on-year, Disney+'s subscriber base grew 37%, up from 94.9 million at the end of 2020.
Disney plans record investment in Disney+ this year, committing to a content spend of $33 billion (£24 billion), an increase of $7 billion (£5.2 billion) on 2021.
The company expects the service to become profitable at some point in 2024, by which time it anticipates having between 230 million and 260 million subscribers.
