Culture secretary Oliver Dowden has confirmed that he is actively considering the future of Channel 4.
The issue of whether to privatise the publicly-owned broadcaster has been on the table for the best part of the last two decades, but successive governments have decided against the move.
Speaking to the culture select committee, Dowden revealed that he has asked for a review into whether C4 should remain in public hands as it faces increasing competition from streaming services.
"It is important when we look across the broadcasting market we consider the appropriate ownership," he said.
"How do we build on the huge contribution that Channel 4 has made and what is the appropriate model for it going forward?"
Dowden added that privatisation within the current parliament - due to end in 2024 - is "one of the options under consideration".
