ITV has confirmed long-running speculation that Big Brother will return to UK screens on ITV2 in 2023, five years after the show took a bow on Channel 5.
As expected, the show will return to its 'social experiment' roots when it comes back, with a focus on featuring contestants from all walks of life across modern Britain.
The new series will run to just six weeks in length, which will represent the shortest run of a civilian edition of the show - and is three weeks shorter than the first ever series, broadcast in 2000.
The broadcaster has confirmed that the public will be able to vote to evict housemates over the course of the series and ultimately vote to select the winner, who will take home a "life-changing cash prize".
ITV2 controller Paul Mortimer said: "This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today's audience.
"We're beyond excited to bring this iconic series to ITV2 and ITVX where it should especially engage with our younger viewers."
Further details about the show, including broadcast details and the identity of the main presenter, will be announced in the coming months.
