Result: Chris Froome wins stage eight of Tour de France, takes yellow jersey

Britain's Chris Froome wins stage eight of the Tour de France and takes the yellow jersey in the process.

Reigning champion Chris Froome has taken the yellow jersey in the Tour de France after winning stage eight.

The 31-year-old Brit, who is vying for his third victory in the elite race, ended stage 13 seconds ahead of his competitors following a dynamic attack.

With 7km left, the Team Sky rider got himself into position by crouching just above his crossbar before sprinting through the final descent.

Froome ended the stage in front, securing a fifth stage win for British riders.
