Result: St Louis Cardinals defeat Los Angeles Dodgers to reach World Series

St Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 in the National League Championship Series to secure their place in the World Series.

St Louis Cardinals will face either the Boston Red Sox or the Detroit Tigers for a 12th World Series title after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers to secure the National League Championship.

Mike Matheny's side had built a 3-2 lead going into game six and confirmed their progress with a 9-0 victory at Busch Stadium.

As things stand, the Red Sox lead the Tigers 4-3 in the American League Championship Series, with game six taking place at Fenway Park just after 1am on Sunday (BST).

If needed, game seven will take place at the same time on Monday, while the first match of the World Series is scheduled for either Boston or Detroit on Wednesday.
