International Olympic Committee disqualifies two Beijing 2008 Olympians

The International Olympic Committee disqualifies two athletes for doping after retesting samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee has disqualified two athletes that competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after evidence of doping was found in old samples.

One of the athletes sanctioned is Cuba's Yarelys Barrios, who won a silver medal in the women's discus event eight years ago.

The 33-year-old tested positive for masking agent acetazolamide, while Qatar's Samuel Adelebari Francis, who came 16th in the 100m, was found to have steroid stanozol following the IOC's retesting, according to Reuters.

The news comes almost two months after Russia was accused of a state-sponsored doping programme in the McLaren report.
